Across the United States, women’s right to choose and Roe v. Wade, the 1973 landmark decision protects a woman’s right to have an abortion, are under attack. When the Supreme Court makes a final ruling in the Mississippi abortion case this summer, access to legal abortion could end for more than 100 million women across the United States, principally in the South and Midwest. Twenty-one states are poised to immediately ban or significantly curtail access to abortions if the Supreme Court chooses to overturn or weaken Roe v. Wade, according to the Guttmacher Institute.

The United States Supreme Court seems poised to strike down or at best greatly undermine Roe v. Wade and a women’s right to choose. This is a seat change for women and the political landscape in the United States. Also, decisions on several high-profile cases and their impact on the rise of vigilantism in the United States, including racial tensions.

A seat change in the Americas. Honduras elects a left-leaning woman president. Barbados cuts ties with the Queen and becomes a republic. The party of the late Hugo Chavez wins big in elections in Venezuela, while Chile turns to the right. Meanwhile, tensions between the United States, Russia, and China continue to build, as Joe Biden calls for a conference on Democracy.
