In our first installment of a new Sojourner Truth series, "Campaigners for Black Lives, we talk to Charles Lyles, the father of Charleena Lyles, a pregnant mother who was shot to death by two policemen in her Seattle apartment on June 18, 2017. Lyles had initially called police to report a burglary in her home, and three of her children were present at the time of her killing.

Dr. Melina Abdullah – Chair of Pan-African Studies at the California State University, Los Angeles; Black Lives Matter Los Angeles organizer; and our partner in the "Campaigners for Black Lives" series – also joins our conversation.

A GoFundMe page for Charleena Lyles' funeral expenses and for the support surviving children can be found here.
