June 16, 2021 – G7 Summit, Child Tax Credit, Poor People’s Campaign

President Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin have begun their highly-anticipated meeting. The presidents are meeting in Geneva. Topics for discussion are said to include cybersecurity, nuclear development, and bilateral relations, among other topics. Tensions between both leaders are high. Biden earlier this year called Putin a “killer” and branded him as an “unrepentant autocrat.” But while in Europe, Biden is being criticized by Republicans in the U.S. for saying Putin was a “worthy adversary.” Meanwhile, Putin has rejected all knowledge of alleged hacking and ransomware attacks against the U.S. government, private businesses and vital infrastructure.

We discuss what came out of the Summit, its wider implications and what this all portends for the United States and the world. Our guest is Dr. Gerald Horne, Moores Professor of History & African-American Studies at the University of Houston, who has written more than 30 books.

Starting July 15, families with children 17 years old and younger will start getting child tax credit payments on a monthly payment from the U.S. government.
